So, what's your idea of an ideal pub? Leather sofas, roaring fire, a couple of handpumps offering Best Bitter? If it is, the Brighton Bierhaus is not going to be your kind of pub. The interior's been gutted and we now have a craft-beer tap wall, supporting a dozen or so keg fonts. This is behind the bar adorned with 6 hand pumps. Both ranges offer a solid selection from the Brighton Bier range, along with some well-sourced guests.

You can check out what's on offer via the pub's website, which features an Untapped live feed. Much the same is displayed on a screen above the bar. Your glass will be cleaned, Brewdog style, before it's filled. Worth mentioning, as well, that the glass could be 1/2, 2/3 or the full pint.

Seating is primarily high tables with (non-upholstered) stools which, while comfortable enough for the hour or so of my visit, didn't seem likely to make an extended session a wholly welcoming proposition.

Service, though, was good: friendly and helpful and the beer from both bar and wall was mostly in fine form.

As long as you're content with the modern style, this is well worth a visit if you're in town and keen to sample the Brighton Bier range.

PV @ the Jury’s Out is now just plain old The Jury’s Out. I popped in late on Wednesday night to find a small U shaped bar and one other customer. Standard draught products were available and Hobgoblin was the ale choice as the Doom Bar was off. I found the young woman on duty to be very friendly even though the bloke sitting at the bar was a grumpy old sod. I don't recall seeing any TVs and I don’t think that there was any background music, but my visit was after 23:00 so there is a late license probably every night of the week.

This isn’t a place I would actively seek out for a return visit.
