A lively craft bar set in a traditional building, ten beers on tap from top end brewers, the beer was good, the rest of it nothing special.

Primarily focused on craft keg, as well as a Baby Bao concession, The Pond in the North Laine also has a handpump serving up, on this occasion, a very passable pint of "Bird": a Hand Brewery best bitter. The keg featured several from Pressure Drop, it being part of a tap take-over event and the prices were much as we've come to expect. Pondwater Pale, a 3.5% sessionner is the house beer.

The pub was busy on a Bank Holiday afternoon, but with enough turnover to ensure seats could be had. The music volume was at the upper end of "background", but that aside, it's not a bad place and worth a pit-stop.

Our final stop of the day in Brighton was the Pond - another new pub for me.

Their website states that groups of 6 or more have to pre-book a table. With 6 of our group remaining, we entered in stages and grabbed a table well away from the bar. Nobody seemed too fussed. I suspect this rule is to deter stag and hen parties from visiting. But in truth, despite us being well oiled late in the day, there were much noisier smaller groups in than our party of 6.

The bar has a ground floor room, with stairs leading upstairs presumably to further seating space, as toilets were at ground floor level adjacent to the bar.

2 real ales on handpull were 360° Bluebell & Only With Love Harlequin. Craft beers were Cloudwater/Rock Leopard Step Up, UnBarred Session Pale: Azacca & Ekuanot, BRZN I'm Like The Terminator But For Helping, Silver Rocket Hazy Paving, Drop Project/Gravity Orbit, Drop Project Shifty, North Field Recordings & Pioneer Pondwater Pale.

With a lively atmosphere, friendly staff and a good range of beers, I quite liked this place. But I soon had to rush to make the penultimate train of the night back to London Bridge. Indeed, its proximity to Brighton station means that I'll probably be back another time for a slightly longer visit.

This is a pub on the ground floor and a Thai restaurant on the first floor, Mon-Sat 6-10:30. Concentrating on the pub aspects, this is a split level room thanks to the hill on which it is situated, semi divided by a half width etched glass screen. Boarded floor, pale green wainscoting, a few large pot plants, the bar is situated to the rear wall. Regular seating with banquettes, stools and standard chairs, carnations on the tables, décor includes a few pub mirrors with an example from the defunct Brickwoods Brewery being noteworthy, the main talking point however is the huge number of chamber pots as well as a few jugs and other articles suspended from the ceilings. I have posted a picture of these, the landlord and landlady being very accommodating in firstly agreeing to my photo and allowing me behind the bar to get a decent angle.
Bar food is available downstairs if you don't fancy a Thai, an A board outside advertised burgers and baguettes, a board also indicated Sunday roasts are offered. There was another bar menu on a chalkboard.
Two handpulled beers on, Hop Back Summer Lightning and Hepworth's Pullman.
Outdoor seating on a raised deck overlooking the North Laines valley, a recess under the stairs had a couple of games, Shut the Box and Jenga.
A perfectly comfortable and welcoming pub for a quick one, low volume soul/funk music giving a relaxed laid back feel and the beer was in good shape.

An eclectic interior with various items hanging from the ceiling. 3 real ale taps 2 on during my visit. Live music advertised. Upstairs appears to be sing-tong a Thai restaurant.

I’m not sure if The Pond is a pub with Thai restaurant attached or a Thai Restaurant with a pub attached as everyone that came through the door during my visit on Saturday headed straight upstairs to the Sing-Tong Thai restaurant that has been awarded five stars by the Scores on the Doors hygiene rating team – top marks and rarely seen! There were only three other people in the bar area when every other pub in Brighton seemed to be packed out so there wasn’t much atmosphere. The barmaid was very friendly and she poured a decent half of Guinness that I enjoyed at the other end of the pub that is down a couple of steps. This is where the stairs up to the restaurant are located and whilst peering up I noticed that the ceiling was chock-a-block with bed pans hanging off it. I’ve seen a lot of knick-knacks and memorabilia in lots of different pubs, but I think that this is somewhat taking the p*ss! I didn’t spot any TVs, but there was some background music that wasn’t too harsh on the ears. There are three hand pumps on the bar and one of these was unused leaving Hophead and Betty Stogs on the other two. There is also a range of standard products alongside Hoegarden and a selection of hot drinks.

Restaurant opening times are 18:00 until 22:30 on Monday through to Saturday and it is closed on Sundays, but traditional roast dinners are available during Sunday day.

I think that there are better pubs in the area and I cannot see a return visit for another beer.
