I had a little look at the reviews by some of my respected colleagues before posting, some of them written at the time of my own visit in 2018 - though I'd been here before with some of my Luton Town mates when we had a game at Withdean athletics track, which was Brighton & Hove Albion's ground. Sorry, John - it's still a Shep's pub, but you'll be pleased to know the Bishop's Finger was in good shape (NBSS 3.5). I noticed the flock wallpaper above the wood panelling before reading Ray's enthusiastic description - there's now navy on an off-white background. Hope you'll approve. I quite like it, and I was happy to be here remembering old friends. Worth another visit? I reckon so.

This pub was good but any pub selling Sheps beers is not going to impress me too much.I went for the Yardman -stout but it was a bit too thin for a stout.

Another of the many pubs hidden in the lanes, this one certainly had a bit of character about it and purports to be the oldest licenced premises in the original lanes dating from about 1864 when it opened as the True Briton as mentioned below. It seemed a pub of two halves with the right hand side for drinking and the flock wallpaper room space on the left much more focussed on food.
The Shep Neame beers available were Bishops Finger, Early Bird, Master Brew and Spitfire and were complemented by the Laine’s Doubloon and Yardsman Chocolate Mocha Stout. The Stout was very good but will agree it did qualify as one of the more expensive beers of the day.
Well I suppose that’s the Lanes District tax for you, but I did feel comfortable in this pub and would return.

Established as the True Briton in 1864, this pub was renamed the Bath Arms in 1868.
Tucked away in The Lanes district, an area which reminds me a little of London’s Covent Garden combined with Hatton Garden; an upmarket chocolate shop next door sports the countenance of Carmen Miranda.
Internally this pub is quite commanding with something of a clubroom feel, and with all the flock wallpaper, some panelling and wall prints of former British sovereigns, looks like a British colonial-themed pub; the areas of bare brick look out of place; the floor is boarded and furniture is conventional. To the rear appears to be a dining room; the pub seems to be quite food led.
Ales: I went for the Laine’s Doubloon at an extremely pricey £2.35 a half which was ok, nothing more and the second priciest ale of the day.
There’s a five-day midnight licence, extending to 1.00 am, Friday and Saturday which is a bonus, but this pub’s expensive.

The main features in here for me was the flag stoned floor snug, which was situated on the right hand side of the bar area. The two recently added sections of flock wallpaper, one in purple and one in red, gave the pub added interest and the manager told me it has been well received and liked by the regular customers. Six handpumps, with the majority of the beers from Shepherd Neame, so I went for the Laines Doubloon, which was in good shape.

An attractive pub hidden away in the Lanes,it maybe tucked away but there is plenty of footfall to and past the pub and so doesn't struggle for custom. It is quite roomy inside with a couple of walk through areas. There were six handpumps with four Shepherd Neame beers and a couple of guest with a Laines beer and my choice of Yardsman Chocolate Mocha Stout. A decent pub certainly worth a look.

The Bath Arms is located down the back alleys of the Lanes area of Brighton and it has an L shaped bar area at the front and another room full of seating at the rear. Two of the six hand pumps were unused but Late Red, Spitfire, Bishop’s Finger and Brighton Best were available from the other four. There is also a standard draught selection and I think I spotted San Miguel somewhere on the bar. Food is heavily advertised and there were still people eating at 20:30 on the Tuesday evening I visited. The mains on the specials board outside ranged in price from £6 to £12.50 which is very reasonable for the area.

I’m not a fan of pubs that put tea lights on the tables that all have condiments on them, but I found it pleasant enough in here and would have no problem returning.

This pub was doing a roaring trade when I stopped in for some much needed refreshment earlier this week and it's easy to see why.
Set in a wonderful old building on a busy intersection in the popular 'Lanes' area of Brighton, there is an endless stream of potential customers constantly passing by their door. The pub offers a warm and clean environment and the staff were very friendly and exceptionally helpful.
There was a decent selection of ales on tap and I couldn't resist trying the Harveys, which was in good condition. They also had a scrumpy on the pumps.
Although I didn't eat, the food looked very nice and seemed fairly well priced given their location. I guess the main drawback would be that the location lends itself to overcrowding and the aforementioned stag/hen parties, but I was fortunate enough to avoid such goings on!
