Small inside with part given over to stage and there is a smakers area at the rear

Now we are heading towards the autumn, Mondays, and Tuesdays, down at the Duke are quiet.
On the first Monday of every month there is a cheese night, anyone is welcome to join in so long as they turn up with some rare pieces of cheese.
Wednesday night there are a few more people.
Thursday night there are a lot more people.
Friday and Saturday nights it is like the Black Hole of Calcutta.
Sunday afternoon quite a few people come especially if there is sport on the TV.
Live music every night apart from Mondays
All types of music rock pop and folk

I popped into the Duke of Cornwall on a recent Thursday evening and found a small pub that was fairly quiet with only a handful of locals in attendance. The bar is located just over to the right and there is a door opening to a small seating area at the rear of the pub. To the left of the entrance is a dartboard, but a game wasn’t possible as some DJ equipment was on the oche? There was no sign of a DJ anywhere, but this pub is open daily from noon until 2am so maybe the tunes get blasted out later in the night. A plasma screen on the right hand wall was showing muted Olympic coverage.
Out the back is a small beer yard with some seating for smokers and at the rear of this area are the toilets.
The bar is stocked with standard draught and I counted four hand pumps that were drawing Dartmoor Brewery’s Jail Ale, Ringwood’s Old Thumper, Dorset Brewing Company’s Chesil and Addlestones Cider. Cornish Rattler was also available on draught for the cider fans.
I thought that this was a friendly local boozer with nice staff and I would have no problem returning.

A little terraced white rendered pub, with black paint work. In the GBG 2010. Funny, as JB says below, the multi-colour window scrawl did set me a back for a few seconds, but hey! i try anywhere.
The interior is a single room, in blue, cream, light wood panel, ceiling beams, floor and tables - yes a bit of wood there! There were also a couple of undressed brick walls with fireplaces in. There was eclectic ephemera dotted about, fishing featuring a bit, but i saw no TV. There was a live acoustic duo on when i visited and they were pretty good and the service was fine - the clientele, which i feared also maybe youngie, were in fact a good mix and the place was busy.
Beer; tap stuff with a good Cotleigh Blue Jay, a very good Dartmoor Jail Ale and a well kept but frankly dull DBC Chesil on handpull
I approached a little nervously, i left having enjoyed my time here drink-wise and music-wise. I would happily go back.

Occupying a fairly central position in Weymouth is The Duke of Cornwall, a pub that is a relatively small, bare boarded single bar.
As we approach the pub, we see large felt tip pen lettering on the plain glass windows advertising cocktails and live music - "Antigua Joe on Friday" - indicating an orientation towards younger customers.
Inside, we find a light pine, wood dominated, cheapish looking modernised interior, with the principal item of note being a large splendid old Devenish & Co mirror. " Shoot the Duke" cocktails are offered at £ 2 each or 3 for £ 5. This, together with various montages of customers in various stages of inebriation, reinforces the initial impression that this is not a place worth lingering in for long.
Although this doesn't feel in any way like your typical real ale pub, the pub is listed in CAMRA's 2010 Good Beer Guide. On my recent evening visit, beers on from the 4 pumps were Dartmoor Jail Ale, Dragons Blood from St Georges Brewery in Worcester and a beer from Potbelly Brewery. The Dragons Blood ( 4.8%) , a strongish, ruby porter-style beer was staggeringly good and at £ 2.60p could validly be considered good value. As a notice in the doorway says " drinking in this pub is not a wealth hazard", although the moreishness of the Dragons Blood did give, even an experienced drinker like me, a bit of a headache the next morning. The Dartmoor Jail Ale was pretty good as well.
As a pub, I didn't warm to this place at all, but the staff were friendly, the beer was superb and the customer mix much better than might have been expected, so you might want to give it a go if you're in town and see for yourself.

This pub is in the middle of Weymouth and not far from the harbour.
This is a very small one bar pub that had nautical decor when i went in here,there was one real ale on here which was Pedigree and this was a decent drink.
Pub visited 25 August 1999.
