Still as curious 10 years later on. "Thai Pan Asian" and "Pub Classics" adorn the boards either side of the pub's name (see my photo) and inside the decor is rather 'upmarket opium den' chic; wicker light-headed coverings over each table being the standout feature through the dark surroundings. Bar on the left with two tall tables and stools in front which made it difficult to get served as both were occupied. Two pumps out of three available with St Austell Proper Job and Sharp's Doom Bar; plumping for the Proper Job, I found myself with a soupy concoction which they exchanged for a Doom Bar after a bit of hesitancy, and little expectation on my behalf (also, seeing as I'd already paid £4.50 for the PJ). The Doom Bar turned out to be in superb nick and my score was going to increase by a mark or two before I overheard a table complaining about their inedible Sunday roast leading to a bit of a standoff between them and the manager.

A bit of a strange one this. Claims to be a brasserie though there's no evidence that they've any idea what a brasserie is. It looks like a pub but at 4PM on a Saturday afternoon the vast majority of the tables were laid up for dining with reserved signs on them. So they haven't much idea what a pub about is either. The front bit features various reproduction antique dining sets, the sort you get in retail park warehouses, and surreally a player piano right in the middle - which was indeed playing with itself while doubling as a reading table for the Daily Torygraph, the journal of choice in these parts. It gets more workaday as you progress through, as though they were running out of money, and you eventually end up in a so-so back yard.
Usual suspects on tap, Ringwood Best in reasonable shape but there's nothing really to bring you here. Visit only if touring the town's other cultural attractions.
