Craft place. Felt like drinking in 80’s Beirut with metal cages over the windows and walls, maybe Terry Waite chained to the radiator was in the bogs. Purple graffiti on left wall and a bowed wood front bar. Quiet on our visit and for a fair amount of time we were the only customers, sat in the quiet. About 10 taps along with a range of cans and bottles. Tried beers from Burnt Mill, Imaginary Friends and Unity Brewing, none of which were particularly memorable. Didn’t do much for me but I'm sure others will enjoy snooping the selection.

A Craft Bar/Micropub, ably described by Blackthorn below , ten taps serving on my visit 7 keg beers and two Ciders, the two beers I tried , Imaginary Friends Lunar Moonatic and Fierce Beer Single Hop Project- 03 Simcoe were enjoyable, there was background music playing and decent stuff, The Stranglers , Radiohead and similar. I enjoyed my stay, worth waiting for the 4pm opening time.

A recent opening at the top end of Walcott Street, it is housed in what is presumably shop conversion and most likely qualifies as a micro-pub going not only on the small size, but the general lack of any music, food, TV, fruit machines and so on.

The main room is at the front of the pub and has good sized windows to make the most of the view of the queueing traffic outside, rough wooden boards on the floor and a single bench style table in the window. A large and colourful mural was on the left hand wall, whilst the right wall was dominated by two blackboards listing an extensive selection of beer in bottles and cans. A few exposed filament light bulbs were hanging above the bar counter, and a small shelf and a couple of stools provided further seating to the right. A further room at the rear that was in reality little more than a corridor, provided some limited seating against the right hand wall while a couple of old metal drums had road signs attached to the top to make them in to small tables. Opposite this was the pub’s “cellar” with all barrels, CO2 and pipework on view which was an interesting feature. Space really is at a premium here and there were numerous kegs, boxes and so on scattered around the floor.

Beers on tap were all keg rather than cask and dispended from a bank of taps on the back wall. On this occasion, they included Wander Beyond’s Better than Ladybugs Peach Ale, Magic Rock & De Molen’s De Mole Imperial Stout (10% ABV and £8 per pint!), Left Handed Giant’s Reuben Picks Raspberries, Burning Sky New Alliance, Wylam Child in Time, Weird Beard Black Perle and Magic Rock Saucery. Ciders meanwhile were Millwhite’s Blackberry Blush and Hawkes Urban Orchard. Overall, a decent enough effort and I would be happy to return next time I’m in the area.
