Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Bistrot Pierre
Impressive-looking church conversion, and although still open full-height to the ceiling, the interior doesn't seem too cavernous. Of course, it is 95% restaurant, but the bar area (and external seating) is open to all. It does also usually have real ale from a pair of handpumps, but sadly these were off when I visited. Made do with the 'house' Bière '94 lager (£4.95).

faux French chain bistro/bar which has opened up in the old church on Fishergate. looks pretty grand too and may be a decent option for breakfast if you're coming in on the train. real ale is available, but more in a 'keep the men satisfied so they'll bring their wives here' way
