Blackthorn _ left this review about Adam & Eve

A traditional looking stone built pub in the centre of Alnwick, it looks as though it might have been recently renovated, and the contemporary styled pub name with Farrow & Ball paint rather hinted that it might be some sort of trendy gastro-pub these days.

Walking through the doors did nothing to dispel this impression, with nearly all the tables being laid up for food, with wine glasses as well as cutlery, except for a small section right at the front where presumably drinkers could sit. Décor wise, I suppose shabby chic would be a suitable description with dark wooden boards on the floor, distressed wood cladding on much of the walls and a rough wooden bar counter. The ceiling seemed vary out of place though, appearing to be pieces of unfinished plasterboard with steel electrical conduit running across them. Seating was mostly fitted Chesterfield style benches in a deep brown colour, with a few padded stools at the front. For a restaurant it all looked quite pleasant, but it certainly didn’t feel at all pub like. On the plus side, there is a terraced beer garden at the back which was a real sun trap, and looks to have also been renovated with plenty of wooden decking.

Unfortunately, there were no real ales on tap, with just Atlantic Pale Ale and Chieftain IPA on keg. Ciders were equally disappointing with Aspall’s and Rekorderlig Strawberry & Lime. Overall, it might well be decent enough for food, but it’s not somewhere I’d bother with again just for a drink.
