Like the neighbouring Laburnum, the Sycamore was not open when I called for a pre-match drink just after 1:30 on Saturday. I had time before my bus back to Sheffield to do both pubs after the game, but I'm sorry to say this one continued to disappoint, with a poor half of Bass (I could have had Landlord or Castle Rock Harvest Pale) - frothy when poured through a tight sparkler, and every pull seemed to bring more froth and leave less liquid in the glass. I wasn't impressed that a couple with their four-year-old were allowed to seat him at a chair by the bar, where he proceeded to cough for about five minutes before they persuaded him to go into the garden and spread his germs there instead.

This could be a nice back-street pub, with its flavour of the countryside among the Matlock suburbs that have surrounded it, and perhaps with a better beer served with more care I might have liked it. My only pleasant recollection is of the big old stone fireplace just to the right of my table.

TERRY DALES left this review about The Sycamore Inn

Nice pub situated in Sycamore Road on the outskirts of the town.
One long bar split into two seperate bars by a couple of steps.
Friendly landlord and landlady.
Well kept real ales, had a pint of excellent Daleside 'Legover'.
Well worth a visit.
