Old Boots left this review about Pie & Ale House

The name "Pie & Ale House" was changed to Stafford Ale House, it is however still closed at June 2014.

Soup Dragon left this review about Pie & Ale House

A terraced eatery - yes, which mainly serves types of pies, but which also serves real ale and does market itself as a 'drinking venue', hence the name 'Pie and Ale House'. It is in a mock-Tudor stone, with front terrace area.

The interior is partioned, but is simply one long room, which ends with an L-shaped counter, part for pies and part for the drinks. There is a function room on the floor above. There are tables all up the room and a few sofas too. The decor is cream and wood panel, with a bit of chocolate and white ceiling - but it can be difficult to tell, especially after several drinks! There is a wood floor. Abstract art is one the walls, but drinkers will be re-assured by the pump clip collection behind the drinks section of the bar. I had a steak and stilton pie, with mash and minted mushy peas and both it and the service were very good. The clientele was mixed, but all seem to be eating.

Beer; tap stuff with continental lagers (no MILD). On handpull were Titanic White Star, Slaters Top Totty, Lymstone Stone Cutter, Hobgoblin and a decent Cottage Brewery Norman's Conquest MM.

Yes, it is a hybrid of pie restaurant and a pub - the decor is more restaurant, but the beer selection and quality (i have been a couple of times now) put many a pub to shame and so it is worthy, in my eyes, to be on a pub site. Definately worth dropping in, probably best when you want to eat, i did feel better when i visited to eat, rather than just drink.
