Situated in the impressive old YMCA building at the base of the Wells Road, this is a Loungers bar with the usual paraphernalia of junk shop and bad taste apparel. Mercifully the fabric of the aged building means that some bits of character remain, with a couple of small wallpapered spur areas leading off the central red and white painted main room (city fans??). Impressively they managed to have neither the Bristol Beer Factory or Goose Island actually available on tap, so I settled for a nitro Bath Dark Side. I'm glad I ticked it for personal reasons, having walked past the building hundreds of times when I was a kid, but once was enough.

Banco Lounge is housed in an old building that is close to a busy road junction.
Once inside the bar is in the middle area of the room, there are pew seats and normal tables and chairs to the right, the front left side is up two steps, there is bench seating and chairs here.
There were no real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Bath Ales Dark Side, which went down well.
Food was being served and crap background music was playing.
It was quite busy on my Saturday afternoon visit.

Yet another outpost of the ever expanding Lounger’s chain, this one has actually been here for a good few years now and so must be one of their earlier ones and is also smaller than many of their sites. Housed in a former bank, it has very high ceilings and large windows giving it a light and airy feel.

Old wooden boards were on the floor with deep red paintwork on the walls, and as is the case in most of their outlets, numerous portraits were hung on the walls. Seating was all chunky wood tables with the emphasis here being on food, although it’s all quite relaxed and informal and we didn’t feel out of place just having a pint. Candles were burning away on all the tables, and one table had chess board built in to the top and a couple of punters were engaged in a game of draughts. A number of other board games were also available.

Unfortunately there were no real ales on tap, just a couple of keg options which were their own Cruiser and Bath Ales Dark Side. The solitary cider was Stowford Press. Overall I don’t dislike this chain, but it’s much more of a café/bar type establishment than your traditional pub and it’s only very occasionally that I make use of them if I’m not eating.
