Soup Dragon left this review about Old Chequers Inn

A deatched Bateman's pub and restaurant. It has a patio area and indeed, a caravan park at the back. The pub itself is in undressed brick, with a nice central entrance and shuttered windows being the only features. It looks like a part of a former farm, but has a charm about it.

The interior has three rooms. To the right on entry is the restaurant room - which was closed. It is in white walls and ceiling, with a brick fireplace and patterned carpet. It has bistro style art and black high backed chairs at smart tables. The lounge/dining area is to the left. It is in purple, undressed brick and white wood panel, with white and beam ceiling and patterned carpet. The brick bar is in the corner and there is a nice fireplace range. Old photos are placed next, general pictures and farm implements on the walls. There are pine tables with bamboo twig things in vases and fluffy cuchions on the perimeter seating. At the back there is a family room, with a dart board if you move the furniture. It is in white and brick, with a carpet. There was no TV that i saw and the music was charty stuff at a decent level. They do food, but we didn't eat here so can't comment on it. The service was friendly and there were just a couple of people in.

Beer; usual tap stuff, with Bateman's XB on handpull. I think i got the first beer of the day, it wasn't great.

Not really my kind of decor and not really worth seeking for real ale. If you like the modern look, i am sure you will like it. It is closed Mondays and only opens in the day from 12-2pm.
