A standard town ‘spoons in a nice old building, split down the middle reflecting the former layout. Drinking area with counter to the left, 5 plus 5 pulls with usual stuff on T-Bars in between. The other side is a series of spaces with tables and chairs. Stanley Jefferson is Stan Laurel’s real name and he went to school in Bishop Auckland so there’s a bit of Laurel & Hardy memorabilia among the usual local history plaques. A nice enough spoons, average beer but it is one of a very limited number of cask outlets in Bishop Auckland.

This is a conversion of a former solicitor's office which makes it more pub like than the High Street shop or office conversions. It's situated on the cobbled Market Place and as JDWs go is probably best described as medium sized.
Inside it's split into various areas with some low beams and the bar situated at the rear left. There was a fair crowd in on my Thursday afternoon visit.
The bar has only eight hand pumps which had one unused, the two GK beers, Grafton Apricot Jungle, Firebrick Trade Star, Saltaire Cascadian Black, Spitfire and Nelson's Mutineer. I went for the Cascadian Black which was excellent.
Overall I thought this was a good Spoons.

Nice airy pub with bar to the left, darker rooms on the right and rear left, with an outside area to the far rear. Reasonable ale selection with Abbot and Daleside Monkey Wrench amongst the hand pumps.
