Pretty basic and sparse bar which has had some ill-advised COVID-lockdown grey gloop on the wood panelling. Off to the side is a restaurant with sea views plus a terrace (plastic glasses only) which was mildly pleasant with a nice view across the Channel. Dogs allowed and a pool table available. Surprised to see three cask on from some less obvious breweries. My first one spluttered and died but the friendly mature barmaid guided me to the Butcombe Original which she had put on yesterday and it was a pretty decent pint (NBSS 3). The wait for the beer was enlivened by the inexplicable arrival of one of Joy Division’s more austere tracks on the stereo, which the barmaid vocally decided to bin-off (probably wisely, despite me actually liking said track). Also got a cheery ‘goodbye!’ from the bar on departure. Worth a drop-in if you've made the effort to look at the nearby old Birnbeck pier and gardens. It’s by no means perfect but it’s a friendly local making an effort, even if Stevie Wonder should have been kept away from the paintbrush.

A traditional old pub located at the far end of Weston near to Burnbeck pier. The pub is unusual looking with large, frosted glass windows filling almost the whole front wall. Although it doesn’t look especially big from the outside, it extends back a long way and there is also an outside terrace at the back offering great views across the channel.

It’s a long, single room pub with the front half being put to use as a sports bar with a pool table in the centre of the room, a giant Guinness Jenga game and a projector, although I couldn’t see any sign of the screen. An old ships’ wheel converted in to a light fitting was above the pool table. There is dark wood panelling on the lower third of the walls, with a Tudor effect cream plaster and black beams above. The flooring is mostly carpet with some wood boards around the wood panelled bar which continued the nautical theme with some stencilled drawings of ships. There was a shelf up above the bar with all manner of bits and pieces.

At the rear of the pub is what might be described as a dining area, with several tables and chairs as well as menus chalked up on a board and a refrigerated display cabinet that looked to have a number of desserts in. This seemed an odd contrast with the rest of the pub. We didn’t check the menu, but they were advertising steak nights on Thursdays and Cider & Cheese nights on a Friday. Clearly nobody was partaking on a recent Thursday evening visit though, as apart from one other punter who seemed to be a friend of the barmaid, we were the only people in there.

Beers on tap were Courage Best and Rucking Mole, although there was a third hand pump for Bass that appeared to have run out. Ciders were Thatcher’s Gold and Blackthorn.
