Still doing table service seemingly out of desire to push themselves as a restaurant and keep drinkers to a minimum, so outside I was plonked and therefore I didn’t get to see the nice interior again - but I did at least get the table with the best view across the Channel and to the bridges (table 89, since you ask, the girl at the desk obviously felt some sympathy). Two ales available, the ubiquitous local pairing of Butcombe Original (NBSS 3) and Doom Bar. Point deducted for the lack of welcome to topers.

Popped back in this weekend. Four ales on the go, Butcombe Bitter, Gold, Doom Bar and a guest from somewhere in Malvern I forgot to note. The Butcombe was in decent shape and Mrs Quinno was happy with her coffee. Dogs aren't allowed inside the pub but are fine in the garden, on a lead. Rated 7

The Royal Hotel was built in 1830 to provide accommodation and catering for travellers on the steamers from Bristol. It’s had a chequered recent history but finally seems to be finally getting it right. The ale range is now pretty decent - Butcombe and Doom Bar along with at least one guest; quality is usually of a good standard. Only real downside is the price - you're paying an extra 30-odd pence for the venue in which you're imbibing. The big selling point here is the view - a nice pint on a sunny day in the beer garden overlooking the Severn towards the bridges and the Welsh coast is rather nice...also, you can take your beer down to the little pebble beach inlet through the garden gate. The pub’s interior also deserves a mention - there's some lovely tiled areas and a nice atmosphere when busy (although can feel deathly quiet when not). Should you be visiting a rich relative or footballer in the Marina complex make sure you pop over, it's worth it I think. Rated 7

This is a great location tucked out of the way at the end of the marina. It's a great looking old stone built building, similar to what you'd expect in some of the villages around Bath. Inside it's obviously had a makeover, and doesn't have quite the olde worlde charm that you might expect. In fact some parts of it look more like a hotel lounge than a pub.

The main draw for most people though it's likely to be the large patio area which has good views across the channel. It's obviously gets very busy at times as there were dozens of tables there all crammed in together. There's also a small garden on a lower level which is much more secluded and only has a handful of tables. The food seemed popular although we didn't try it ourselves.

Beers on tap were Tribute, Doom Bar, Butcombe, Butcombe Blond and Cheddar's Gorge Best. The ciders were Thatcher's Gold, Blackthorn and Magners.

Over the years this pub has made the transition from a stuffy hotel, crappy pub to the very good establishment it is now.The developement of the new marina have had it and its prices move up market. It has its own menu and the food is Ok if a little pricey. Here you are paying for the fantastic view over the Severn Estuary towards Wales. Both Severn Bridges and the comings and goings at Avonmouth Docks can be seen. Beers are at least one Buttecombe and two other ales. Never had complaint about the beer with the present management.Disabled access is good both inside and out.
On a sunny day this place can very crowded as its a bit of a tourist trap.
