This is one of those formulaic family orientated pub restaurant chain places with a standard pub fare menu and various special offers designed to attract people and their little ones in during the week or early at the weekend.
In saying that the Aspley is actually a decent example of the genre and thankfully sits some way above the dreaded Harvester.
It benefits from a very good location situated in the Aspley canal basin and several of the window seats and the outside decking tables give good views of the basin and canals. Internally it's a decent sized modern interior design with lots of separate areas and alcoves where large families can be seated and make noise without distracting other diners. We actually used it when staying next door in the Premier Inn and was able to utilise yet another special offer for breakfast and dinner special that is available to guests for just £24 The menu is the usual family pub comfort food with all the usual favourites of burgers, steaks, curry’s, hand battered fish and chips, Steak and Ale pies with fajitas, chilli con carne, and Mediterranean vegetable lasagne thrown in.
The drinks were the usual standard draft selection and only one ale available in the shape of Black Sheep Bitter, but then that's not what these places are about.
The food we experienced was pretty decent for the price and I would probably give it four stars on Trip Advisor, which is where I suggest you go and look for reviews if you intend to come and eat here. As a pub I’d probably give it a 5 on here and 3 of them would be for the view of the canal boats, but that would be unfair to do as this place really is a restaurant for the guests of the Premier Inn next door and for the young families escaping from the Kingsgate shopping centre opposite.

It was a Friday evening around 4:30 pm when we arrived. The place utilises a municipal car park which is Pay & Display but they will deduct the cost of parking from your bill so long as you present the split off part from the ticket. Costs in June 2016 we £2.00 for 2hrs or £3.00 for 4hrs. Full day was £7.00.
Small walk over the footbridge across the canal which was not suitable for disabled and so they would have to use the car park entrance on St Andrews Road. Place is quite large and is surrounded by the canal and wharf on two sides which gives very pleasant aspects (even in the rain!).
The place was fairly empty when we arrived and so seating had plenty of choice and the staff were good enough to knock the air-con off as it was blowing down directly on our table. Menu is typical Table Table chain and most major food groups were catered for and is available on the website prior to arrival if you want to check it out. Table service was attentive and courteous and the food arrived in short time. All five agreed that the food was very well presented, plentiful and extremely tasty. hence the high score because our experience was just perfect.
Because we had another appointment we decided to return for deserts about three hours later and we were able to get a great table in the bar area and the deserts were at the same standard as the mains.
All in all I would not hesitate returning to this establishment and would heartily recommend to anybody looking for good food in the area.
