A bit of a surprise, this one, mainly because I didn't know about it but should have. Anyway the building remains as described by Soup below, vaguely suburban, done out in a seventies nautical style. We pulled in on a dismal November afternoon, tripling the attendance, and were bowled over to see half a dozen Sperrin badged handpumps going. I asked the landlady for a weak driver's beer, I can't remember what it was called, but it certainly touched the spot.

These former mining villages nowadays feel a little out of place in the pleasant Warwickshire countryside, with their rows of terraces and WMCs, and are worth nosing around, especially when you find little jewels like the Nelson.

Enjoyed our visit to this brewpub for Sperrin beers which appears in the 2019 Good Beer Guide. Met up with friends for one of their budget meals which was good value. There were 5 of their Sperrin beers on plus a guest from Milestone brewery and a cider. There is a car park. and an hourly bus service 18 which runs from Nuneaton.

This is a detached pub and restaurant, also home to the Sperrin's Brewery (Victory Beers), with a patio area. The pub looks modern, but has at least a Victorian (the name would suggest older) pub at heart. The pub has grown organically, especially as the area became more subject to development back in the 30/50s. It is in white render, comprises of several buildings, with the outstanding feature being a 'rear of the Victory' at the back of the pub. The pub has a few rooms; bar/lounges and a restuarant room. If entering from the car park you arrive in a vestibule that has a statue of Nelson, nautical ephemera and a fish tank. It is in blue patterned wallpaper with a laminate floor. There seem to be a couple of bars, in wood panel. Again, nautical ephemera is everywhere and there are a few TVs showing footy. The bars are irregular in shape and can also become foody overspills if required. The restaurant is whre we settled and i had a fantastic and somewhat large steak. Also in wood panel, with the prints ond ephemera on the walls, there seemed to be a dance floor/stage area at one end. There was another fish tank, fortunately, not for chosing your dinner! The service was great and the clientele huge, with a good mix of drinkers and diners, as well as ages. Beer; usual tap stuff with Marstons Ashes and Pedigree as guests - these were ignored in favour of the local brewed ales; Victory's Ship of the Line, Head Hunter, Third Part, Band of Brothers and Thick as Thieves - having tried a few in their sister pub, i tried the Band, Thick and Ship here - all were well kept, the Thick being a little strong for me at 6.8%. A great pub, great beer and food. Definitely worth a visit - i could stay here for hours.
