I'd been following a list of London pubs that were worth visiting for their interesting history or features as much as their drinks or food, and I should have been at the Dolphin except that an error in research had led me to think it would be open on a Tuesday afternoon. It wasn't, but a bit of amazing serendipity led me to the Enterprise on the opposite side of the road, which not only has a beautiful exterior, it's also on Camra's inventory of heritage interiors. I spent a happy 20 minutes here photographing some of the stunning mirrors, tiles and linacrusta while supping a pretty good half of Sharps Doom Bar (NBSS 3.5 - yes, I know). There were four hand pumps, with Oakham Citra the only other beer on (a Tuesday afternoon). Definitely worth a visit.

An attractive and highly decorated Victorian pub as described below, featuring on CAMRA’s inventory of pubs with historic interiors, this being of Regional Importance; certainly the mirrors and polychromatic tiles are very attractive. I’ve been coming here for most of this century and I wouldn’t really describe it as a gastropub as the menu revolves around the ‘posh’ burger.
The duelling model RFC and Luftwaffe bi-planes as well as a seaplane hang overhead but the interior - which features stuffed fish in cabinets above the picture rail to the rear – is spoilt somewhat by the aircon units. Furniture is traditional and customers amount to locals and office workers, so it can get quite busy come the end of the week.
Ales: A couple forgotten, then Proper Job at a reasonable price – again forgotten – and in great nick, served by a friendly barmaid.
The Enterprise is certainly worth a visit and even a detour if in the area, making for a great double with the Lamb along its eponymous conduit street.

A traditional frontage with two doors gives access to an open plan interior which does retain some decent features.Along the left wall there are a series of large mirrors hung against some good glazed tiling, below which are a rank of traditional tables. The window recess has green leather bound sofas, while the rear section continues this theme with high backed bench seating ,smaller mirrors and a door to a rear partly covered courtyard. The bar in the middle right of the building has some pleasing wood features and some etched glass, while the dark wooden floor throughout goes well with the green wall coverings. There is ephemera dotted about, dog fighting models of a Spitfire and Messerschmitt ,a small sky light and fairy lighting is used extensively and gives chic character.
The soundtrack was first class and played at a sensible volume and really enhanced my visit.Food is burgers and tapas, there is a shooters menu at £3.90. The 4 handpumps were drawing St Austell Proper Job,Doom Bar,Purity UBU and Dark Star Hophead (NBSS 2.5).
Probably more a young persons bar,but there is enough to justify a visit if in the area.
