A small street corner pub that I have always avoided in the evening due to it's prominence in the Stortford night time economy,and the noise blaring from it.However I felt braver one lunchtime,and entered into a rough floored tap room,the bar also faced in rough wood with even more wood on the walls with a dark red low ceiling.Drinking shelves ran around the walls,a few bar stools were dotted about and two flatscreens show Sky and BT Sports.
Through an archways is a slightly bigger back room,again mainly sporting bar stools and a low ceiling which in turn leads to a courtyard.The lack of furniture implies that vertical drinking will mainly be the norm.
There is an upstairs area ,unused on my trip but with occasional live music or just a very loud sound system sound,with the volume way down on my trip thankfully.
A very mainstream keg selection from multinationals and two handpumps drawing Brakspear Oxford Gold and Ringwood Razorback (£3.60 ,clear but tangy with hints of vinegar).The customers even at lunchtime were sweary and rough so now that I have satisfied my curiosity there is no need for a revisit.

This pub re-opened it's doors on 12th December 2008 after rebuilding after a major fire in March 2006.
