Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Ship Inn
Old harbour-side inn with a narrow front patio that probably catches the sun until mid-afternoon. The refurbished semi-traditional bar is surprisingly plain, although the adjacent dining room looks slightly more modern. Two real ales on handpump: Strathbraan Head East (£3.70) and Kelburn Red Smiddy which was changed over to Jack Back from Stewart Brewing (which I was offered a taste of as it was put on, and is just the sort of simple thing to do to get people to gain the best-possible impression any hostelry).

The Ship has stood among a small cluster of buildings overlooking Stonehaven’s picturesque harbour since 1771 although it has since extended into the building next door which now houses a restaurant spcialising in seafood.
The interior of the pub itself is smaller than you expect it to be and is divided into 2 halves either side of the central doorway although it is effectively one knocked through room. The décor is quite simple with light paneling, plain carpets, lanterns, a couple of brewery mirrors and typical pub furniture. A few nick nacks including a diver’s helmet line various shelves but the place isn’t over cluttered. There was a small basic TV in the corner of the bar showing World Cup football but there wasn’t really anone watching (apart from me). The pub attracts a decent mix of locals and tourists and the benches outside overlooking the harbour are naturally prime spots on a warm day.
The bar has a set of water taps to compliment the good stock of whiskies (over 100) and there are a couple of ales (Caledonian Nectar and Inveralmond Tia Fail on my visit) among the more regular kegs and lagers. A pint of Nectar and a small Diet Coke (for MrsB) came to £4.75 which I found a bit steep and I found the service so poor that I had to check I hadn’t accidently worn my invisibility cloak by mistake.
I was expecting the Ship to be one of the highlights of my pub visit during my 2 week trek around the area but felt let down by the service and prices although it is still worth a visit but I found the Marine Hotel a few doors down a far better option.

Whitewashed old stone building on the harbour side with a restaurant housed in a linked modern building next door. The public bar is a long single room with the counter at one end to the side and benches, tables and chairs opposite, there is a sitting area at the other end of the room. Décor is loosely nautical with a divers helmet, boat lights and salty pictures adorning the tongue and groove. There is a nice mirror over the fireplace advertising East India Pale Ale from the defunct Devanha brewery. Two handpumps on the bar serving well kept Scottish microbrewery beers from Inveralmond and Deeside, Scotland's keg favourites from Tennents and McEwans alongside UK kegs from Stella, John Smiths, Guinness and Strongbow with Staropramen bringing up the rear. There are also 80+ malts displayed on the bar shelves. Service is good from the nubile young barmaids, and the restaurant service didn't clash with the bar service. Slightly pricey with a 3.8% ale at £3.05 but there were still a good few older locals in despite this being the north east where people are notoriously careful with their bawbees.
