Relatively modern brick pub, once on a main road but now almost isolated in a cul-de-sac left by construction of the M6 and M6 Toll motorways. Tables in the bar and front extension were mostly laid up for those dining, although the menu appears pretty basic? The front beer garden was busiest on a sunny afternoon, and surprisingly not troubled by too much traffic noise. Unfortunately, though, none of the three handpumps were working, so went for the Banks's Mild (£3.45) in preference to delights such as Mansfield Smooth.

Visited here one afternoon at about 5pm, was very quiet with only about 3 folks in the lounge side. the pub is quite secluded now as the construction of the M6 Toll created a new route for the A460 leaving this pub and a local poultry farm in a no through road backwater, but it seems all the better foir it but apparently not good for passing trade as there aren't many signposts advertising its presence locally. The set up is much as previously described. With Banks's Bitter and Mild on tap and one Ale which is presently a permanent fixture too that being Mansfield Smoooth Creamy Ale... I sampled a couple and found it to be well kept and tasty... its a pity that they don't have guest ales etc as I could see myself returning to this piub as it was pleasant and relaxing in the lounge. However the very nice bar lady did explain that it gets quite busy come weekends being pretty much full to the point if you don't book for a meal you wont get in.. and they do a sunday roast serving until 7.30pm Will definately return as quite fancy trying the Banks offerings to see what they are like?

A nice detached (very now the BNRR and associated works have effectively taken it off the main A460 and dumped it into a dead end road) modern undressed brick build, with some character. Has a conservatory as a part of the dining area, beer garden and children's play area.

The interior has two rooms that are completely separate; a bar and a lounge/dining room. The lounge/dining room is very tidy, in peppermint green and wood panel (with a little patterned wallpaper area), nice white moulded cornice ceiling and a strange patterned carpet that seemed 70s and a little out of place. The art is all modern and well, arty, clinging to the walls, like barnacles on a whale. It really isn't to my taste, but to be fair, it is different and some will really like it. I did like the solid, yet plain wooden furniture. There was a TV in this room showing adverts and general background music. The bar room is an irregular shape and the decor is an amazing mix of colours - orange, lime, grey, yellow, so bright, i could read a book by it at midnight. A few sofas were perched by general tables and chairs and there is a games area with pool and darts. A TV, above the brick fireplace, had general stuff on and there was no music here.

Service was fine and the clientele small but chomping happily in the lounge, while the bar was packed with a car-club, consisting of teens and 20s - so busy i had to go to the lounge (staff kindly let me through the serving bar to escape, not they were a problem, it was just too full!).

Beer; tap stuff, with Banks's MILD. On handpull there was Banks's Bitter, Wychwood Dirty Tackle, which was fine and Banks's Lion's Roar.

The last time i visited it wasn't a good experience, but i did say i would come back and visit the bar room. I did. The experience was far better this time (beer-wise) and i did realise that i was being unfair in my last review, in that just because the decor isn't to my taste, it doesn't make it bad. It remains 'not my thing' but it does offer, real ales, food, pub games, kids' play area etc.
