Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Chase Gate

Rather woeful Hungry Horse with a ginormous car park, with no residual character inside what might once have been quite an interesting building. Opened-out at some stage to leave a variety of different seating and dining areas in an overall L shape, but all very dull. Some patio seating can also be found front and back. Slightly surprisingly, both handpumps were in use, offering Greene King IPA (£3.75) and Lilley's Cheeky Pig cider on a bespoke Abbot handle.

Update: Now refurbished again and opened as a Greene King Hungry Horse. Still has play area for kids (grabbing machine, too) and the real ale choice now runs to IPA (if that counts) and Abbot (which was fine enough). Service friendly and the mixed crowd you expect at such a place. Nicely dressed up at my visit for the World Cup.

May 2013: The pub has been refurbished and re-opened as a Fayre & Square place. The exterior is of course the same, though i think the kid's play area has been re-vamped.

The interior is the same layout, but different decor, with mainly green, red and terracotta walls. The arty pictures have been replaced by modern views of the delights of Cannock. There is still the sofa bar area, with TV. The service was good, the food functional for what you pay for. The clientele were the same mix, but again, it was well attended.

Beer; usual tap stuff - the MILD has gone, but a real ale - Bombardier at my visit, has arrived in recompense. I had coke.

On a personal note, it is better in some ways, not so in others. The loss of the MILD in return for a bog standard real ale is not enough for me - but, it is good for families and those that do not seek depth on the beer front.

A large Swiss cottage looking place, with dormer windows, with beer garden, patio and play area

Another open plan 2 for £10 foody place. The décor is orange and yellow, with wood panel and is nearly all laid out for dining, with a small sofa area for drinks, where there is Sky TV. The service was functional, the clientele a complete mix and it is often well attended, I guess the play area for the kids in Summer and the cheapness of the food attracts – it must be pointed out of course, I simply went for the beer and not to eat, the last time I did eat here, it was OK – you get what you pay for.. Sadly, the pictures are arty, making this place duller to me, but the music is ok and at a decent level.

Beer; had I written this the last time I had to go in I would have been more critical, but visiting to make notes, I found the basic taps that were always here (no real ale) have been gratefully supplemented by Highgate MILD – which means I had something to drink here for once – so good on the Winking Frog! I could now return here to eat at least, but not simply for a beer.

Mark Barr left this review about The Chase Gate

In my experience having only visited during the day I have to comment that this pub is more of a restaurant than a bar but the food is excellent in quality, served quickly, efficiently and politely with a very wide selection of starter's mains and dessert's.

Most definitely the best restaurant style pub in Cannock to be honest, however the bar area is very small and having not been during the night time I do not know if the tables are moved and if they have entertainment. Certainly I noticed no pool or dart's. Beer was a small selection and not as wide as the food selection and above average in price.

Definitely a place for a meal, not so much for a drink with your mates.
