Something of a flying visit as we ordered our beer and then poured it into leather tankards to drink after we had worked the lock outside.
This led to much confusion with the friendly and welcoming governor who had never seen two empty pint glasses appear on the bar so quickly after having served them.
The reviews below give accurate descriptions of the interior and I would only add that the main bar feels welcoming and comfortable helped by a lit coal fire on our visit. The loos are also clean and fully functional.
Three beers available were all from the Marstons stable: Pedigree, which was in top condition, Brakspears Oxford Pale Ale and one from Jennings which I'd never seen before but didn't note the name.
Well worth a stop if you're passing.

A proper boozer tied to Marston's ,close to the lock on the Trent and Mersey where there is a small garden with benches.Inside there is the main taproom with two wings off to the side,in a traditional layout. The quarry tiles, real fire and a long leather bound bench opposite the bar produce a welcoming feel and the three handpumps were offering Pedigree,Banks's Sunbeam and Ringwood Boondoggle (£3.10 in decent shape).I also spotted a Banks's Dark Mild on keg.Pub grub food at reasonable prices and bar snacks such as Hot Belly Pork and Stuffing Bap at £2.50 sounded good.
Normally I dislike muzak, but 70's classics played at modest volume enhanced the experience.
A community local ,also popular with boaters and just crying out to be used if you are navigating through the lock.I enjoyed my visit.

The Barton Turns Inn is a decent looking pub that is in a nice location facing the Trent and Mersey canal.
Once inside the main bar had a tiled floor and leather bench seats with normal tables and chairs, there was a small dining area to the right and a small lounge to the rear left, this area was carpeted, there was also a tropical fish tank next to the bar which looked quite nice.
There was a real fire on the go which gave the pub a nice cosy feel to it.
The pub is a Marstons tied house and there were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Marstons EPA which was a very nice well kept drink, the other beers were Pedigree and Banks's Sunbeam.
I quite liked this pub as it was a proper pub for drinkers.
