We visited the Ferry Inn in eager anticipation to see what it what is was like after the refurbishment. When I last visited it several years ago, it was largely a wet sales pub, with wood panelling on the inside. The outside has been cleaned up and there is new furniture. Inside has totally changed, to place the emphasis on food, with a carvey taking pride of place. What is left of the wood panelling has been given a coat of brightly coloured emulsion. The rest is a curious mix. Woodforde Wherry, Nelson's Revenge, Youngs Special, Greene King Abbott Ale, Courage Directors and Adnams Bitter on hand pump. Having ordered our drinks, the barmaid assumed we wanted to place an order for food, and responded with surprise when I declined. It was very busy, so the format is working, but it is a shame that to stay in business it has had to become like most other large pubs. To top it all, the gents toilet was not part of the refurbishment, and should have been. We will not make it a priority to visit again as there are other pubs on more interesting parts of the river that are easier to get to.

I am pleased to report that the Ferry Inn is re-opening. The enclosed photos taken from the other side of the River Bure, show that the boarding over the windows has been removed and it has had a coat of paint. Contractors were on site when we visited. You can see the 'For Lease' signs propped up on the edge of the river. I do not know when the opening date is, but work seemed advanced, and I would assume they will want it open by the time school holidays start, which is the busiest time on the Broads.
