Fuller's pub just off the main drag in a residential area. Built in the 1950s in a bomb-gap it looks slightly incongruous. There is a small gravel car-park and garden at the back, and there is a small smoking terrace at the far side, with chairs and tables overlooking the garden. There is a single large T-shaped bar with an industrial-looking coffee machine whose gurgling added to the general murmur of amiable conversation enabled by the muted TV screen. They hold regular quiz nights, and there is a good local feel. Four ales on draft, all from Fullers. I had a pint of Red Fox, which was in very good condition. One of the better pubs in this area, I would be happy to return.

This is Fuller’s pub, which had on a couple of George Gale’s ales – Seafarers and Spring Sprinter, as well as the inevitable and ubiquitous London Pride, and ESB. As is the way with Fuller’s pubs, food is available during the day, and although I didn’t get to examine the menu in detail, sandwiches were £3.95, or £4.50 if you wanted them toasted. I had a toasted cheese and tomato sarny, which was just about OK for the price, but nothing special.
This looks like a fairly new build pub, although I suppose it could be inter-war. Essentially it’s one large drinking space, although it is separated in the middle by the vestibule of the erstwhile Saloon Bar entrance. The old Public Bar entrance is on the right, which now just leads to the ladies’ lavatory. It’s got the look of a pub that’s been got at by an interior designer, or perhaps a generic pub outfitter. The floors are bare-boarded with what looks like modern varnished replica boarding, broken up by a couple of large rugs, clean and unsullied normal tables and chairs all apparently meticulously placed in their assigned positions, grey painted walls broken up by some neutral wallpaper, and the usual black and white photographs of the area. It’s all a bit predictable, but nonetheless it’s clean and fairly comfortable, if a bit sterile. It’s not a bad pub, just not one that you leave thinking that you must pay a return visit.

The Thai menu has been replaced by more traditional fare - and very good it was too. I agree that the beer is a little pricey, but I've been going to the pub quiz on Thursdays which is the best around. I love a good pub quiz and do them regularly. This stands out, not just because the quizmaster obviously creates his own quiz from scratch, but it's an entertaining night too. It makes such a change to find a quiz that isn't downloaded.

The last time I was there they even had us identifying herbs in a smell test among the general knowledge, music and so on. Top notch.
