Lovely looking backstreet boozer, inside the room wraps around a centrally stationed bar. From the six pumps three beers were available, Youngs Bitter and Special plus St Austell Tribute, the latter being in good shape. On the down side the pub was empty at 1.30 on a Sunday lunchtime but live music was being advertised for later in the afternoon in the garden, maybe everyone were saving themselves for later. Could do with a bit more adventure on the beer front but nice pub.

Sadly there are not that many old style back street locals like this left anymore, but this looks like a thriving survivor. A U-shaped carpeted room, split level at the right hand end, central a nearly island bar, a dartboard, fish tank, shelf of books, football on TV at a sensible volume, wrought iron 70s bar gantry, some remaining etched glass in the doors, framed prints of the Crystal Palace, a wall full size photo of a railway station and a glass case full of model trains. To the right of the bar a high level glass screen with some stained glass partially divides the area. There's not much in here that isn't to like, it is a fine pub indeed. Outdoor seating to the side with a separate function room beyond.
This is despite the six or so handpumps offering just Young's Bitter and Special between them, I had a Special which was top notch. I was however very impressed and appreciative of the full on cheeseboard with crackers on the end of the bar, fully gratis to customers. What a nice touch.

Alan Winfield left this review about The Railway Bell

The Railway Bell is a long standing Youngs tied house that has been on my list to do for a long time.
Once inside there is a single U shaped room with the bar to the front, the room is carpeted and has comfy bench seating, there was a TV to the rear left showing snooker and there was also a darts board to the rear left.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Youngs Bitter which went down well, the other beer was Youngs Special.
This is a proper pub and it was also quite busy on my mid Saturday afternoon visit.
I quite liked this pub.
