Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Walkers Of Whitehall

Quiet when I called in late afternoon but about 30 minutes later it will no doubt be busy as usual when nearby offices close), particularly in the ground-floor Street Bar (with its plush banquette seating on three sides and small circular tables at the street end and higher ones at the back) and outside on the pavement. Usually rather more civilised in the split-level main restaurant and bar downstairs (which has something of the feel of a hotel lounge), although the beer quality is sometimes poorer there. On this visit, I found Harvey's and two Watney's beers - Pale Ale and the seasonal Ray of Sunshine (£4.40) - available from three of the five handpumps at street level. Overall, nothing special, but far fewer tourists than the nearby pubs on Whitehall itself.

I paid my first visit to this pub last week after a gap of over 10 years, and it didn’t look as if it had changed at all. It’s a multi level “iceberg” pub in that most of it is below the surface. It has a smallish bar on the ground floor; a mainly restaurant area down a level; and with another bar area down yet another level. The upstairs bar had just the one real ale on – Bombardier (£3.85 a pint), while the lower level bar had three on – Bombardier, Doom Bar, and Harvistoun Bitter & Twisted (also £3.85 a pint). They obviously do food, but I didn’t go into the restaurant area to peruse a menu.

The pub is just off Whitehall in a narrow alleyway next to the Silver Cross. It is possible to walk past and not notice it, which I suppose is why it doesn’t attract too many tourists. It’s comfortably enough and furnished with pretty standard tables and chairs, and is OK for a pint or two as long as you’ve no problem with subterranean drinking.

Walkers's multi-level, subterranean environment and prime location have the potential to make this a first class venue, but sadly this potential is not realised. Food was expensive and the beer was a huge disappointment - the Pedigree was completely off, while the London Pride was only just drinkable. The staff were clueless, although they were clearly hired for their looks rather than their knowledge of real ale. It was crowded, noisy and generally unsatisfying; there are better venues nearby. I would come back at lunchtime when in Whitehall, but it wouldn't be my first choice and I wouldn't include it on a crawl.
