As described by Quinno below, this pub has a much loved, but sligthly down at heel air. That aside, the landlord and staff really love their beer, as demonstrated by a constantly rotating selection of well chosen ales from local sources.
We were staying in the accomodation to the rear, and a late evening visit introduced me to Scribbler's Brewery from the Nottingham area:Hoppy Potter and the Goblet of Ale,despite its emetic title, was a decent lightish APA.A busy evening had relieved a number of pumps of their clips-others on offer were from Pig and Porter and Dancing Duck.Keg and canned craft beers were available, together with ciders, gins and organic wines.
Deservedly award winning.

Of immediate note above the entrance is the unique and ornate signage. A quiet pub, with a lounge room off the left with a 90 degree angle bar off to the right which was set up for dining, plus a darts alcove. Traditional décor combo of red pub carpet and wood flooring with some pew seating and off-white walls, though there felt like a faint air of shabbiness, allied with just a hint of a damp smell and a bit on the chilly side as well. Five ales on, Hart Columbus Pale and Winter Red, Lincoln Green Brrr (good nick), Nobby's Plum Porter (good nick) and Dancing Duck Dark Drake (fine). Lots of interesting kegs (including some locally brewed lager), proper ciders and a huge beer menu – it’s a connoisseurs paradise. Friendly service. We ate here and the menu uses mainly local produce and the food was fine. A good little beer stop but the pub itself could do with a little more homeliness. 7.5

Alan Winfield left this review about The Peacock Inn

The peacock is a roadside pub that was was very busy when i went in but was just about to close mid afternoon luckily the landlady let me have a quick half, this sems more of a food type of pub catering for older people. There was only one real on the bar this was Adnams Bitter which was drinkable, not my type of pub.
