I imagined I would be walking into a traditional style pub judging from the original roadside building. This was the complete opposite, with a modern and large extensive interior, especially the large rear dining area. Even the snug on the left of entrance has been given that chic look.
This pub is in a prominent position along the canal edge, so I reckon it gets very busy, compared to my Tuesday night middle of February visit.
Three handpumps serving Wainwright, Theakston Best Bitter and Black Sheep.
I went for the Theakston which was in good shape and the price was reasonable. The big downside was the awful whining modern music being played.

A simple brick building that has been greatly extended via a conservatory to the rear which overlooks the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, the best part of the interior is in the original building. In through the porch,to the left is a charming snug with it's own fireplace, bench and banquette,a small library of books and a spinning table.Cosy and tucked away.To the right is a low ceiling with a side lounge wrapped around one side of the horseshoe shaped bar.
The back of the pub is dominated by the modern conservatory which leads on to a raised dining area. There are handpumps on both sides of the bar and the six were dispensing Tetley's Mild and Bitter,Bass,Moorhouse Pride of Pendle,Prospect One Twenty, while the Black Sheep pump was ,thankfully, not working.
Food is a draw here but we did not sample any.Musak was 60's ballards, and the customer base at lunchtime was mainly mature.
Although there was nothing wrong with the condition of the beer,as you might expect in a GBG listed house,I thought the selection to be rather dull and the two Wolverhampton brewed Tetley's beers seemed a waste of handpumps.More thought given to ale selection could easily resulted in a higher rating.Slightly frosty reception for the crew until the landlady thought we might be the beer police.

Great canalside location, good selection of cask beers were on offer and superb food, we chose to eat in the restaurant but some were eating in the pub, there are plenty of tables outside where I am told food is served when weather permits!
What a good afternoon out!
