Well, so this is how the other half lives. This is a seriously posh hotel and apparently you need to have a really big car to drive here. I arrived on my bicycle, but I wasn't alone, as a group of cyclists turned up soon after me and also found their way to the bar. There's an old white-washed pub-like building to the left of the smart hotel, but the door here merely admits to the hotel and a longish walk then ensues, past the foyer just inside the main hotel entrance and around the back where there is a fantastic view over the river at the rear of the hotel. I assume there's an extra charge for looking at the view, as I paid £2.10 for a half of Black Sheep Bitter. The others available were Timothy Taylor Landlord and Pendle Witches Brew, with a further pump clip turned around, which seemed to be Tirril Kirkstone Gold. There's a patio garden overlooking the river, but I was content to stay in the room with the view, getting my money's worth.

The Inn dates back to the 1300's, it sits high on the banks of the river Hodder with spectacular views up the Bowland Valley. Both stunning inside and out. Bit pricey but you do get what you pay for.

Beautiful inn on the banks of the River Hodder, hence the stepping stones. Very popular for wedding venues etc. Steeped in history including the Bowman family, famous for beer and cricket!! See the website. Paul aka Spud at the new bar.
