An old looking town pub in a town of old looking pubs, beamed ceilings, rooms in series, the front room has a bar billiards table, a usable dartboard in a case plus stools fashioned from aluminium beer casks. Moving through, the bar is in the middle of the pub where it all expands to the side and rear.
The room at the rear has a curtain so I suppose it can be divided off seating in here is along each side so perhaps where entertainment takes place, the large side area opposite the bar is up a step. Lots of wall mounted framed stuff about pubs and beer, interesting brewery mirrors and ads included. A piano on a side wall plus ads for occasional live music suggests that this place gets going some evenings, a quiz however is advertised for the first Monday of the month.
A pleasing selection, Purple Moose Snowdonia Ale, Pitchfork Try Me, Hop Back GFB plus a couple of ciders from Dudda's Tun, a local producer.
A nice pub, seems to have something for everyone depending on the time of day.

This is indeed an old pub, that is very large inside. There's a room just on the right as you enter - which has its own bar counter although it wasn't use for its traditional purpose, just storage and coffee/tea production as far as I could see. It was furnished with fairly normal tables and chairs although beer casks were doing duty as stools. It contains a dartboard. The main bar is past this room; there's a dining area further back, and a pub garden.

There was live music on the Friday evening we visited and it was absolutely heaving - there was what I suppose is door control, and when Mrs R and I left they allowed two of the customers waiting outside to enter.

There were a couple of ales on - Black Sheep Bitter and Mad Cat Brewery Educated Guess (from a local microbrewery), plus Dudda's Tun Disco Cider. Being accompanied by Mrs R I am able to report that the coffee was very good quality for the £2 it cost. There is a CAMRA discount of 20p off a pint, and 10p off a half. Obviously I didn't the sign until after I had paid, and I was unable to get a second pint of the superb Educated Guess because the bar area was far too busy. Nonetheless I like this pub, and I'm sure it would be a very comfortable pub if

As described below this is a long narrow place that looks quite old. There is a small area at the front before you get to the bar on the right.
This had two hand pumps for cider and four for beer. Sadly one of these was unused and the others had a pathetic choice of Well's Poppy, the grossly over-rated Taylor's Boltmaker or Cottage Pacific. I went for the Cottage beer (£3.70) which was way too cold and tasteless but I wouldn't expect anything else from a brewery that even JDW no longer use on their national guest ale list.
To be honest anywhere with the name Cask or Kitchen in the name might just as well have the words rip off in brackets after it so in this case it was a double whammy. £3.70 for a mediochre 4% ABV beer is over the top. The 10p CAMRA discount wouldn't have altered my view if I'd known about it.
