Has had a bit of money spent on it since the last time I went in and is now advertised as a “bar/pizzeria”. The lovely coloured tiled flooring, library wallpaper, herringbone wall and the oval ceiling plasterwork (hops?) caught my eye. Old habits die hard though, with pointlessly loud music in the front bar (why do so many pubs in Maidenhead think anyone wants this on a Monday night?). At least it was quieter in the vast cavernous rear area. Two ales from pump rather than 2011’s dubious stillage - GK Abbott and GK IPA Gold. The Abbot was ok. Might be worth a swift one before the train now.

June 2011
Popped in here before the train despite being warned by another bunch of crawlers earlier that the ale was ‘awful’. The interior is very large and modern, with sports TV, loud music and multiple pool tables. Two ales at the bar, being served directly from the barrel, quite heavily tipped. Given the warm day (temperatures well up in the high 20’s/early30’s) there was no sign of any cooling on the casks, which probably accounted for the state of the beer described earlier as it had no doubt been festering and was nearing the end. After a second evaluating the evidence and not seeing much reason to stay, we headed off. Unrated.
