Steve C left this review about Brass Monkey

Working down the road in St Leonards-on-Sea I have noticed a recent increase in the amount of students travelling to and from Hastings. I don’t know or care why this is the case, but this influx of student loan money to the area means that it is now financially viable for the Brass Monkey to open during the daytime. I popped in late on a recent Friday afternoon when there were four or five people of student age in attendance. I found the staff on duty to be very friendly as they dispensed the keg lager. Also available were keg Peculiar Pale Ale and IPA from Theakstons. Drink deals are also available on shots.
The dimly lit interior consists of an L shaped bar at the front with a dance floor, stage and pool table behind. Out the back is an enclosed seating area that for some reason is covered in camouflage netting. The overall feel is ‘student bar’ because it is a student bar.
This place isn’t on my revisit list, but it was better than I expected – I wasn’t expecting much!

2nd October 2011

From the brass Monkey website ‘The Brass Monkey is an alternative bar and live music venue located on Havelock Road in Hastings, East Sussex. Open for regular nights Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, 10pm ‘til late.

This would explain why the doors were locked when I tried to gain entry at 20:00 on Friday evening. From reading their website further it seems that some nights are free, others there is a door charge and some nights are ticket only depending on what event is going on.

Doesn’t really sound like my sort of place.
