About
JAZZ at The Castle with The Alan Weekes Trio
Alan Weekes is probably best known locally for holding a late-night residency for almost 20 years on Sunday nights at The Haggerston pub. A modern jazz-led trio playing a mixture of standards and originals from be-bop to cool grooves, the band also explore new avenues in jazz blues and swing with various guests joining in on jam sessions as the night progresses. If you’ve ever been, you know! The Alan Weekes Trio at The Castle will follow a very similar formula, with the guys inviting regular guests on a weekly basis to join them. Every week should offer something unexpected and a little different.
Weekes' long career has seen him share the stage with people as varied as George Clinton and Joss Stone. Always in demand as a recording artist on the British jazz scene, he’s recorded with people like Cleveland Watkiss, Courtney Pine and even US legend Art Blakey, and his other great musical love, Reggae, has seen him play with Jimmy Cliff, Jackie Mittoo of The Skatalites, Aswad & Damian Marley amongst many others.
We’re running every Sunday starting 25th of March from 7pm-10pm in the main bar and ENTRY IS FREE.
