About
Jim has been playing guitar for 50 years, and harmonica a few years longer. He's been going to local folk clubs for over 45 years and started playing in folk clubs 30 years ago, inspired by some great local performers like Dave Burland, John Leonard and John Squires, Steve Hopton, Wesley Parkes and Smith, Roy Bailey, Roy Machin and Sharon Fountain. Jim says "As you know, Sheffield is a brilliant centre for acoustic music, which is a blessing for me because I don't need to stray too far from home to get my music fix!".

He started a monthly open-mic night at the Royal in Dungworth 16 years ago, and (happily) it's still going strong. He also started a weekly jam session (Wednesdays) at the Huntsman in Thurlstone 6 years ago, and this has proved to be popular and very well supported. He also supports numerous other acoustic nights locally, playing cover versions of songs by favourite singer song-writers like Bob Dylan, Richard Thompson, Paul Simon, Tom Waits, Jez Lowe and Anthony John Clark. His repertoire of songs covers everything from Folk, Blues and beyond into Country, 50's/60's Pop, Rock n' Roll to Classic Old-time Jazz Standards. More recently, the ultra laid-back style of Leon Redbone suits his gradual slide into old age!
