Guthrie Govan is a name that almost needs no introduction in guitar circles. Simply put, he’s one of the most jaw-droppingly astonishing guitarists on the planet – but one with a musicality and feel to his playing that sets him apart from other masters of electric guitar technique.
Something of a musical polymath, it seems like there’s no guitar-based challenge that Guthrie won’t turn his hand to – he’s toured with English prog-rock legends Asia, performed with iconic film composer Hans Zimmer and even appeared on Jools Holland backing up Dizzee Rascal! In recent years however, he’s poured most of his seemingly unending creative energy into two projects. Firstly, he’s become prog-rock maestro Steven Wilson’s go-to guitar foil on two critically acclaimed albums - The Raven That Refused To Sing, and Hand. Cannot. Erase. - and also helped bring these wonderful works to a live setting. Somehow, he also finds the time to front his power trio, The Aristocrats. The Aristocrats have released three albums of kinetic prog-rock to date, and have brought their face-melting live show to audiences across the world, too.
Guthrie was the star of the first ever Guitar Masterclass back in March 2017, and his blend of wit, wisdom and superhuman guitar playing was such a hit with attendees, we’ve decided to bring him back for 2018, so more lucky ticketholders can have the pleasure of his company for an evening at Dingwalls Camden, London.
Guthrie won’t just be talking, however – he’ll also be taking questions from the audience, so be sure to come prepared for a rare chance to pick the brains of one of the most incredible guitar players in the world today!
