Celebrating 40 years since the band's formation, The Monochrome Set return to The Continental to promote their forthcoming album, Maisieworld, due for release in Spring 2018.

Featuring original members Bid (Guitar/Vocals) and Andy Warren (bass) with John Paul Moran (keyboards) and Mike Urban, who was previously in the band in the early 90s, on drums, The Monochrome Set formed in 1978 and were heavily influential in the 'post-punk' scene that evolved after the initial scorched earth of punk.

The band's early releases were on the legendary Rough Trade Label before signing with Virgin offshoot Din Disc. They also released several albums on the Cherry Red label, making a notable appearance on that labels' well known 'Pillows and Prayers' compilation.

Though The Monochrome Set split in 1985 the next decade saw several reunions for both live gigs and further studio recordings, their album release count now being well into double figures.

After a hiatus of over a decade the band reformed full time in 2010 and have since toured all over the UK, Europe, Japan and the USA, whilst also releasing four new, critically acclaimed, studio albums, the most recent, 'Cosmonaut', on the German 'Tapete' label in September 2016.

THE DISTRACTIONS

The Distractions were very well known on the post-punk Manchester music scene of the late 70s/early 80s. They released records on the TJM, Factory, Island and Rough Trade labels to excellent reviews, including the classic single ‘Time Goes By So Slow’ single in 1979, as well as sharing bills with Joy Division, The Buzzcocks, Echo and the Bunnymen, The Fall, The Members, Squeeze and many others. They played all corners of the UK and Ireland as well as doing gigs in New York before splitting up.

David Hepworth described their debut album, “Nobody’s Perfect” as, “An enchanting and vaguely disturbing collection of vulnerable pop”.

During early 2010, vocalist Mike Finney and guitarist Steve Perrin revisited material that had been recorded during a brief reunion in the late '90s resulting in their Black Velvet EP which was released via Occultation Recordings. They returned to the studio in June 2010 to record new material – this time for a 12" vinyl EP, Come Home and, after teaming up with other musicians, finally released the second Distractions album, The End Of The Pier in August 2012. At the same point, this version of the group played two sell-out shows in Salford.

However, with Perrin living in New Zealand, further work was put on hold until 2015 when Finney and original drummer Alex got together with some friends after being asked to play at a memorial gig for Manchester punk legend John the Postman. It went down so well they decided to continue as a live act playing their singles as well as songs from “Nobody’s Perfect”.

The current Distractions line-up is Mike Finney vocals, Alex Sidebottom Drums, Joe Brehony Bass, Chris Dutton Guitar, Jonny Poole Guitar

VUKOVAR

Vukovar come from the Brutalist wastelands in the North of England. Ultra-Realism. Depravity. Monotony. Concrete. Hedonism. Silence. Vukovar are idealists, voyeurs and totalitarians.

"Following last album Fornication was always going to be a difficult task. The sheer quality was difficult to perceive of as being replicated, it was a quite stunning album only ten months ago and a follow-up must surely be amiss in some areas. Thankfully, Vukovar have come up trumps with Puritan. It is, nothing short of brilliant and must surely catapult the St Helens boys into the eyes of the media forthwith.

...Album of the year? Possibly." Louder Than War 9/10
