Pleased to Meet You in Newcastle Upon Tyne

Bar/restaurant that seems to be quite a trendy place popular with a fairly young clientele. The large room has plenty of seating which feels quite cosy after dark. We've never quite managed to get here during the day. So, I've no idea what it is like during daylight hours.

Always busy, this place serves a varied range of drinks, including real ales, spirits and cocktails. Real ales were Almasty Simple Pleasures, Anarchy Blonde Star, Brew York Calmer Chameleon & McColl's Let's Eat Pies And Talk About Men's Mental Health. The cider was Hogan's Wild Elder.

It stays open quite late in the evening and makes a good penultimate place to drink before heading to Lady Grey's for even later drinks.

Here in under a minute of leaving the Bird in Hand also on Masbro Rd. Quite a few tables also set here for dining but more of a mix of drinkers and diners. Indeed quite a bit larger than the Bird in Hand and so the venue was more pleasant to sit in to enjoy my pint. Most pure quaffers were assembled perched on stools sitting around the bar but I chose the many empty tables as a result rather than squash

Quaff of choice - more out of curiosity - was the Havelock Bitter, an amber coloured ale slightly sub 4% abv apparently brewed for them by GK. Only other cask choice was TT Landlord - wish I had chosen that as their branded bitter was uber bland. Several keg options some looked more interesting than the usual but didn’t record as had to rush off to meet the wife!!

By just about any standard, Tony Magee should be considered one of the most successful Americans to have ever worked in beer. The soon-to-be 64-year old entrepreneur started California's Lagunitas Brewing Company in 1993, grew its IPA-focused portfolio into one of the largest breweries in the country, and sold to ....

Have never understood the hype around the Wenlock, having visited a few times over the years, all disappointing. Maybe just unlucky, I don't know
