The Star, Gillingham

I understand that this large Greene King pub on the outskirts of town is due to be converted to a Hungry Horse at the end of the month. The spacious and quite vaernous interior is knocked through and would be a bit hollow when the place isn’t busy. There are a couple of pool tables at the front and the usual run of the mill diet of live music, TV sport and quiz nights although I would imagine that things will be very different after the conversion. There are various sections with a range of seating and décor but it all seems a bit plastic and contrived. The customer base would for the most part be locals although being on the A2 it is handy for a pit stop. 3 reasonably kept Ales currently on offer; Abbott, IPA and Ruddles County at decent enough prices. For the moment it is a reasonably presentable but quite average pub that seems better due to the lack of decent watering holes in town. I wouldn’t particularly go out of the way for the place regardless of its future direction.
