Sportsman, West Bromwich

Labelled as bar and restaurant on the front - yet I saw no evidence of a restaurant. No menus. No one eating. I came in for curiosity, as relatives use it on match days. Large room, with TVs and keg beers.

Referred to as a club in some places, but this definitely seems to be a pub and restaurant open to all. The main bar at the front was surprisingly busy on a Wednesday evening, as was the rear dining room, with both parts having been recently refurbished by the look of things. No real ale, unfortunately, but the keg selection included the M&B Mild (just £2.20) so that was OK with me. With the music, sports TVs and general chatter all competing, it was hardly a relaxed experience, but the service was efficient and it was good to see the place doing so well. And with football memorabilia as the main decorative theme, it must get even busier on match days I guess.
