The Briggate (JD Wetherspoon), Leeds

Unimpressive entrance onto Main Street, but this Wetherspoon's opens into a very large building behind, with a long bar down one wall and a kitchen servery across the end. Also a side entrance from car park, and many outdoor tables. Seemed to have a general air of being well-run, which it needed on a Friday lunchtime which was pretty busy, although still not difficult to find space. Usual 'Spoon's facilities, ales etc.

As the previous reviewer points out this was the Garforth Liberal Club which has stood there for 128 years and finally closed in 2014.This is a very large Wethys with a long and tall bar positioned on the far right of the room.There are a great deal of tables and chairs plus a few booth type seats and a fair amount of old photos and history of the area adorning the walls.There are 2 outdoor areas,one just before you enter and another to the left.

Apparently this was a liberal club before. It doesn't look that big from the front but it opens out a lot to the right with the bar to the far right. A good selection of local real ales of offer - Acorn, Ilkley and Great Heck breweries along with the usual suspects. It was absolutely packed on May Day, including the outside seating areas - God knows where people would have gone prior to the Spoons being there. A decent Spoons, all in all.
