The Guildhall & Linen Exchange (JD Wetherspoon), Dunfermline

The foundation stone was laid in 1807 but they soon found themselves in financial difficulties and the 42 metre spire was added in 1811 paid for by public donations.It was originally what it says on the tin a Guildhall and Linen Exchange and in later life has been a Sheriffs court,police station and finally a job centre. Cannot add much to the 2 previous reviews and agree the place is small with very few features with furnishings set out like that of a café bar. There was a few cask beers on that I was not familiar with and in all fairness the friendly barmaid let me sample 3 small glasses of beer before I made my choice.

Another impressive Spoons building, though there’s little left of historical interest within. Despite the size of the building it's quite small inside, a single room effectively divided in two lengthways by a wall. Presumably quite a recent opening as the interior décor is a bit more wacky than the standard template - glazed gold brick bar back, powder puff blue, Scandinavian wood slatting and pre-Raphelite repro paintings on ceiling. Eight pumps all clipped. Only two stagers so a good range of guests with a Scottish slant, my Black Wolf Florida Black was in good nick. Unusually quiet for a Sunday afternoon, I thought. Still, this was a decent Spoons and I enjoyed my 40 minutes leeching off the free wifi.

Occupying a prominent corner of the town centre, this landmark building has been tastefully converted to use as a pub and hotel. Even on a quiet and very cold evening there were a few drinkers dotted about the large ground floor. The bar is on the left, and featured the usual 'Spoons beer offering, of which only one was from a Scottish brewery: Inveralmond. Other "guests" at the time of my visit were from Upham, Dark Star and Roosters. Date of visit: 6th March 2016
