Royal Oak, Clevedon

Six nations rugby not the best time for pub ticking. Packed solid. A thin corridor leads to two rooms, connected by a single bar. Occupied high stools all around it, so quite tricky to see what was on offer and to get served. Free food from a tureen - could have been soup, curry or cullen skink - with baguettes. Four real ales on - I could spot Butcombe (average), London Pride but not the other LocALE beers on. Nautical decorations leading research into the Ship Matthew from 1471. Unfussy, popular back street locals pub.

This is a great little hidden gem. Only just off the sea front up a little lane and well worth finding it out. A real pub with 4 real ales on and kept very well. The landlord was very friendly and welcoming as was the locals. Would definately go again :)
