Seven Stars, Derby

an obviously old building with lots of neat old features including a well in the back bar, Marstons owned so the choice was Hobgoblin or Pedigree; I missed out on Doombar from the cellar by jug but I guess I'll survive. Definitely worth popping in when going between the Five Lamps and the Flowerpot etc, and I'll check what's in the jug next time.

You have to go down a couple of steps to get into this old traditional pub. The rear bar is quite ornate and has some barrels and low beams etc. The front are is quite small. There were only 2 cask ales available MArston's Pedigree and Ringwood Boondoggle (I think). It's a good looking pub, but the ale choice lets it down. Worth a look in when walking from The Flowerpot to Five Lamps.

A fairly unusual building (dated 1680) with a high-pitched sloping roof. Characterful inside, with a sunken horseshoe-shaped interior and low ceiling. Not exactly bursting with ale choice, just a couple on (Black Sheep and Marstons) served in jugs from the cellar, so worth popping in for that experience alone (although similar serving method can be found for the Bass at Ye Olde Dolphin). Apparently a 17th century well in the back bar, must have missed that. Drop in as part of an extended crawl.
