The Fighting Cocks, Birmingham

A good winter pub, fairly dark inside with darkly painted high ceilings and leaded windows. If the strange chandeliers were changed one half of the pub could almost pass as mock medieval. Floors were tiled and there was a large railway station style clock on the corner inside the bar area. The pub has a long main bar with the single room wrapping around it in a 'U' shape. The right hand side of the pub is a bit more contemporary in style and the toilets were clean and modern. On handpull there was Sharp's Doom Bar, Purity UBU, Adnam's Yuletide and Keltek Kingam. A decent pub I thought.

Fantastic place this one, a great find in arty Moseley, one of the trendy corners of Birmingham. Imposing building, there is a barometer on the outside, as well as the clock tower. Not sure what this place used to be, but its a lovely old building. Inside there's high ceiling, raised stools and tables & more traditional seating. Excellent tiling and glazing.Modern/traditional music mix. 4 well kept real ales - when I visited Brew Dog Edge, Sharps Doom Bar and Cornish Coaster and local Purity UBU. City prices, but nice feel to the place. Would be good on a beer tour in the area.

An impressive corner pub/eatery, with clock tower and in mock-Tudor style, with coloured window glass and with a patio area. The interior is open plan and in fact encompasses the bar. The decor is mainly white and wood panel, with a black ceiling and some green ceramic tiling. There is a wood panelled fireplace and a few arty pictures on the walls, as well as 60s styled hippy tapastries, with circles on, that could have been Humpty's blanket in Playschool. We didn't eat, but the food was priced £8-12. The service here was exceptionally good, the mixed clientele seemed a bit arty/studenty it felt - more likely i am just getting old! The background music was at a soft level. Beer; tap stuff with a selection of continental lager/wheatbeers; Peroni, Sierra Navada Staropramen, with three real ale handpulls, with Purity UBU, Hydes Loose Cannon and a decent enough Sharpe's Doombar. A very nice place, one certainly to aim for. The next time i am back in this neck of the woods, i would visit here.
