The Rummer Hotel, Bristol

Well described by others below, we found ourselves in an atmospheric bar on the ground floor, an oasis of calm in Bristol. The barman was cheerful and welcoming, a large Labrador-cross made us feel welcome and there were a couple of people enjoying an intimate drink together. The downside was the drink situation – an unappetising Pilsner on tap, and two beers in cans only, plus a wide range spirits and cocktails. I risked a beer from a can, which was served in a heavy glass so cold that ice was forming on the beer’s surface. The novelty value was limited in duration, and the can of beer was extortionately expensive. I think there are other places to explore before I come back.
