The Thatchers Arms, Bures

There is no way that you could be mistaken about the nationality of this pub with the barman wearing an Ireland top and all of the Irish paraphernalia up on the walls. I spotted three screens doted around the pub which were all showing sky sports news and there are signs up advertising Sky and GAA. Some modern furniture is found in front of the patio doors at the rear of the pub and the recently added decking out the back has views of the river. The Pride cost me £2.50 a pint, which probably made it taste better than it was and Young's Ordinary was also available alongside a hand pump that was not being used. There is also a standard draught selection and I’ve also sampled the Guinness which is ok. I liked it in here before the addition of the decking and I think it may have just got a little bit better.

A surprising pub given it's location - in the middle of nowhere! Not far off the main drag, and well worth pulling off for. Food excellent, and staff helpful. Beers were spot on - I tried the Crouch Vale Brewers Gold, Adnams and another local ale. Beautiful views, and a lovely selection of bottled Trappist and Abbey beers. The only downside to this place is getting there - landlord, staff and locals happy to chat, plenty of room whether drinking or dining, and everything appears to be quality first. Recommended
