The Doctors, Gloucester

Pub is as described by Soupy and is a lot bigger than it looks from the frontage. We had breakfast here one day when the service was decent, if a bit haphazard and the eggs on both of our breakfasts were rock hard. The hard drinking, old scrote level was very low at 10 in the morning which made a pleasant change. We called in again for a pint later on. There was a decent selection of ales from the festival on the bar plus the usual suspects. The service was good and my pint was in good nick. Quite a decent JDW.

A Spoon's chain pub/eatery in what looks like a modern brick build. It is named after John Taylor, the 16th century poet, born in Gloucester. It has a rear patio area. The frontage is typical Spoonsy glass and wood - i think it was actually a bar prior to its take-over. The interior is, in effect, one long room, with a raised area. It opens out after entry, with the serving bar to the left, a sofa area, with silent TV to the right and ending-up with a family fining area in the conservatory. The decor has wood panelling in the conservatory, with red, coffee and cream wallpaper in the main area. There are some information boards and mirrors to break-up the walls. The service was fine and the usual Spoon's mix were in. Beer; usual tap stuff and Abbot and Ruddles on handpull. Guest ales included; JW Lees Cora, Single Hop Wakatu, Exmoor Wild Cat, Everard's Pumpkin Ale (decent enough), Jenning's World's Biggerst Liar and Bateman's Hazlenut Brownie, which seemed to be kept well enough, but was extremely sickly. A bit soulless, but better than some Spoon experiences.

A large 'spoons extending through various seating area to a large paved garden area which sadly proved to be the highlight of the visit,despite the obvious rodent traps place in the foliage around the perimeter.Sad to report no care taken with ale quality,so despite a wide range of beers this proved to be a very brief visit.
