Yarbridge Inn, Sandown

Got off the train at Brading station a few days ago and walked down the footpath alongside the railway to the pub only to find it closed. WHat a shame as this had a superb range of ales on. lets hope it returns, as good as it was before.

A detached cream rendered cottage style pub with extension and nice patio area. In GBG 2010 and winner of the CAMRA PotY. The interior had one long room that i saw. The decor was mainly cream and light blue, with wood panel, blue ceiling and some exposed brick and stone. The food area - affectionately called the 'Dining Car' is accessed through a mock stone lined tunnel arch - fun! The was a pile of railway memorabilia - great for me as i really like stream railway stuff; pictures, posters and yes, a model railway, as well as a collection of beer mats around the actual serving bar. The service was excellent, the youngish chap behind the bar knew his ales that he was serving as a part of a mini beer festival. The clientele were locals and holiday makers - one guy getting his plasic bottle filled! Beer; tap stuff, including continental lagers and the following on handpull, some being in the festival - Adnams Gunhill (nice) Crouch Vale Blackwater MILD (good) Nether Gate Umbel Magna, Batemans Eggs-B, Brentwood Spooky Moon and Oakham Oblivion were untried, Crab and Winkle MILD (nice) and Mauldons Mole Trap (nice). Wibblers Darker MILD was sadly on the turn - it being replace immediately. Fantastic - i can understand why it won the PotY, but there is still competition on the Island - A must.
