The Prince of Wales, East Molesey

A good sized and popular pub on this pleasant High Street, it looks as though it has undergone some refurbishment and is well presented with a modern, contemporary feel. It was very busy on our Friday evening visit, but that’s probably as much to do with the lack of much competition in the immediate area as anything else. Décor wise it’s almost elegant in places with a couple of large chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, Flooring was wood strip and there was some exposed brick walling along with dark green paintwork elsewhere. Various old black and white pictures of the river were dotted around the walls. A large TV was stuck up on the wall, but fortunately this was not in use. The menu offered a decent selection of dishes, perhaps a step or two up from your usual “pub grub”, but certainly nothing too gastro, with most of the main courses coming in at somewhere around the £12 - £15 mark. A fish pie was a pretty decent dish, a generous portion and a nice cheesy mash on top, with only the accompanying vegetables being a bit of a let-down. Beers on tap were Truman’s Runner, Fireside and Old Dairy Blue Top whilst a fourth pump appeared to have run out. The solitary cider was Aspall’s Harry Sparrow.

The review below is still pretty accurate. Interior stripped to modern feel, with emphasis on food, but still an interesting range of ales.

A Greene King pub, but very little in the way of corporate branding on the exterior (apart from the crown above the traditional pub sign). The interior has two levels and offers several different seating areas with modern furniture. There is also a fair-sized patio beer garden out back. Five real ales on handpump - IPA, OSH, Abbot, Royal Gold and the seasonal Ale Fresco (nice enough, and reasonably priced at £3.05).
